ATHETIC NEWS

SUMMER/FALL SPORTS SIGN UPS are now available on line  www.hspirit.org  Click on school tab on left and then forms and lists to download your forms.  Fill them out and drop form and check at the Ministry Center.  Deadline is May 11th.

STEWARDSHIP NEWS

Please use your envelopes! This makes crediting your stewardship contributions to your account more efficient.

STEWARDSHIP:
Please remember our parish budget is based upon your stewardship pledges. It is imperative that all parishioners who participate in stewardship keep up with their pledges. If you are in arrears, please catch up now! Thank you!  Stewardship supports all!

STOCK TRANSFERS:
If you plan on making a stock donation, please let the stewardship recorder at the Ministry Center know so we can be looking for the gift.  We have several stock donations where proper credit has not been given because the donor has not notified the stewardship recorder.

IN GIVING YOU RECEIVE: An opportunity for seniors.  If you are a senior age 70½ or older, you can transfer up to $100,000 from your IRA account directly to charity without the need to report this distribution as ordinary income subject to taxes.  You can give a wonderful gift and save on taxes at the same time.

PLEASE REMEMBER
HOLY SPIRIT IN YOUR WILL.

STOCK DONATIONS:
Please remember to notify Frank Bergamini, Business Manager if you are making a stock donation so proper credit will be given to you.  He can be reached at the Ministry Center, 893-3982.

SCHOOL NEWS

BOOK FEES: The first installment of the 2008-2009 school year was due March 21st.  If you have not done so, please remit payment to the Ministry Center.

OUTREACH MINISTRY

NOTIFICATION:  Because of  HIPPA (national privacy act) we are not notified by the hospitals when members of the parish are admitted .  Therefore, we cannot visit and/or pray for someone who is sick unless the person him/herself, the family or a friend notifies us.  Please remember to call the Ministry Center when this situation occurs so that we may remember the individual in prayer.  Prayer really can make a difference.

BLANKET MINISTRY: Our next meeting is Tuesday, May 20th, at 4:00pm in the Conference Room of the Ministry Center.  We are always looking for new members.  If you or someone you know are interested please feel free to come and learn more about us.
Also, if you, a family member or a friend are ill and would like a tangible sign of the prayers and support of the parish, please call Mary Ann at the Ministry Center.

BLOOD DRIVE:
Next Sunday, May 18th, is our Community Blood Drive here at Holy Spirit.  The Red Cross will be in the Meeting Rooms from 9:00am until 1:00pm to accept your donation of the ‘gift of life’.  Please considered giving 1-11/2 hours of your time and a unit of blood to this very necessary cause.
Our goal is 30 units.  To ensure that number we need 38 donors.  From a parish of over 1200 families, surely we can get 38 donors.  Don’t YOU think??  Please call Mary Ann at the Ministry Center, 893-3982,  with any questions.

SPECIAL EVENT
Twice  each year, Spring and Fall, the Archdiocese of Louisville offers a very special retreat for very special people through their Pastoral Care Office.  This retreat, the Gennesaret Retreat, is designed for individuals who are homebound and/or chronically ill.  It is a three day event which offers a healing experience of prayerful care and support for those who struggle each day with a limiting illness.  Staffed by nurses and other individuals trained in the care of the sick, this is a safe, holy environment for people with Heart Disease, MS, Cancer, ALS,  Diabetes and any other chronic disease.
There are still openings for the Spring Gennersaret Retreat to be held June 6-8.  There is no cost to the retreatants.  For more information or to register please call the Pastoral Care Office at the Maloney Center (502) 636-0296 and ask for Jocelyn Frazier.

GIRL SCOUT TROOP 1510
from the sixth grade is collecting new and gently used toys, games, stuffed animals, electronic games, etc.  The toys will go to St. Joe’s Children’s Orphanage and Catholic Charities.  Think of the children as you are spring cleaning! If you do not have toys to donate, you can give money to troop 1510 and we will buy new toys.  We will be collecting for children 1-13 years old and will collect until June 1st.  A box will be in the Rotunda for any donations or you contact Amy Brangers at 897-2662.  We appreciate all donations. Thank you!

DRUG TOSS:
May 20th thru 22nd are the dates for this year’s Drug Toss in Metro Louisville.  There will be six (6) locations for drop offs.  The most convenient for our area are Christopher East Nursing Home and Brookside Senior Living.  Start gathering together all old medications, both prescription and over the counter, for this event.  This is the perfect time to rid your shelves of clutter that can become dangerous.

PREGNANCY RESOURCE CENTER:
Once again, we will be selling roses on Mother’s Day weekend after each of the Masses to benefit the Pregnancy Resource Center.  The flowers are $2 each or $20 for a dozen.  You can’t find a better deal anywhere in the city.
