Church of the Holy Spirit
HEALTH and WELLNESS MINISTRY:

The Health and Wellness Ministry at the Church of the Holy Spirit is a vibrant ongoing ministry that plays an active part in parish life.   Through the volunteer efforts of many parishioners, the  sick, elderly, and/or shut-ins are kept connected to the parish through various outreach programs.

On staff is the Parish Nurse Minister who:
    * Provides education and awareness of health-related issues.
    * Counsels individuals personally on health problems, medications and treatments.
    * Promotes an understanding of the relationship between lifestyles and attitudes with faith and wellbeing.
    * Acts as a resource and liaison to community resources.
    * Coordinates volunteers for wellness, both physical and spiritual, related services.

Several major wellness screenings and activities are offered in the course of a calendar year including:
         * LifeLine Screening (a four part non-invasive vascular screening)
         * Annual Mammography Screening
         * Flu and Pneumonia Shot Clinic
         * Two community Blood Drives

The spiritual wellbeing of the members of our faith community is in the forefront of our endeavors.  Through several programs we are able to reach out to our faith family in times of need.
    * Weekly celebration of the Sacrament of the Sick after the 8:15am Mass.
    * Twice yearly communal celebration of the  Sacrament of the Sick during one of the weekend liturgies.
    * Weekly Communion to the homebound.
    * Hospital visitation, cards and prayers

    * AND our Healing Blanket Ministry.  This is an outreach to those who are in need of a visible, tangible sign that their parish family is with them in prayer and support.

The Healing Blanket
As death is an important part of life we reach out to members of the parish who are experiencing the death of a loved one through our Bereavement Committee.  This committee helps to plan the funeral, serves at the funeral liturgy in whatever compacity needed, takes food to the family at the funeral home or serves a luncheon after the funeral and follows through with cards and notes at special times during the first year.
